    Jordan Element   Quai 54   Ruff N Tuff Collection

    Back in April, we gave you a sneak peek at the Quai 54-inspired Jordan Element from the Ruff N Tuff collection and with the tournament approaching, these kicks are about to hit stores. The Quai 54 basketball tournament is held in Paris every summer, pitting some of the world’s best streetball squads against each other for the glory of international bragging rights. In recognition of the event, Jordan Brand will be releasing limited edition Quai 54 versions of the Jordan Element and the Air Jordan 1.

    The Element features a combination of materials on the upper, using sections of Black patent leather, Elephant print nubuck and durable mesh. The kicks also sport White contrast stitching, Laser Blue accents and a speckled midsole stripe as well as a translucent herringbone outsole and a special Quai 54 tongue label. Originally believed to be a European exclusive, the Jordan Element will be hitting House of Hoops on Saturday, June 20th. For now, you can check out some nice detailed images after the jump.     If the Nike Hypermax has been making waves in the sneaker scene consider the McFly Edition a monsoon. These detailed pictures show the silver, powder blue and pink marvels in all their splendor. The shoe itself is made up of a satin like material with patent leather accenting. The pink hue is found on the lining and also inside the visible air bubble which is interrupted by the powder blue midsole. Other cool details are the silver speckled sole, embroidered swoosh on the inside and cool graphic insoles. They are set to release at select nike retailers in very limited quanitity.     The Nike Hypermax drew its inspiration from the Nike Hyperdunk. Here we see the Hyperdunk set to drop minus the flywire technology and draped in a satin. Set to drop in four colorways that all feature white midsoles and accenting the Hyperdunk is just as useful for on court performance as it is off court fashion.     The world’s second-largest sports goods maker Adidas  plans to keep marketing spending stable despite the global downturn, contrasting moves at bigger rival Nike .

    “We will continue to spend about 13 percent of our (annual) net sales on marketing,” said Adidas Chief Executive Herbert Hainer at a press conference on Wednesday.

     The global recession has hit industry bellwether Nike, runner-up Adidas as well as Puma  in recent months and all three have launched broad cost cutting programmes to offset a downturn in consumer spending.

    At Nike — experienced in multibillion dollar marketing blitzes — cost-cutting efforts include reductions in marketing spending by focusing more on digital campaigns than on traditional media like television.

     But Adidas said it sees marketing “as investment” and instead aims to save more than 100 million euros annually by cutting jobs, closing regional offices and potentially some of its stores.

     In the run-up to the world soccer championship in South Africa next year, Adidas has also set its sight on digital campaigns, Bernd Wahler, chief marketing officer for sport performance at Adidas said.

    Adidas shares were up 6.8 percent at 27.58 euros at 1441 GMT, outperforming a 1.6 percent gain in Germany’s blue-chip DAX index .

    MARKET LEADER

    The group aims for record sales with soccer related products in 2010 of “clearly more than 1.3 billion euros ($1.83 billion)”, Hainer said. Adidas is market leader for soccer products with a market share of 34 percent, followed by Nike.

     ”We are well positioned to further extend our market leadership in football again next year,” Hainer added.

     Adidas equips national football teams of for example Germany, Argentina, Spain and the 2010 world soccer championship host-nation South Africa. 

    Adidas shares trade at 13 times 12-month forward earnings, according to Thomson Reuters StarMine, which weights analysts’ forecasts according to their track record.

    That is a discount to Nike, which trades at a multiple of about 16, as investors remain wary of weak performance at Adidas‘ U.S. brand Reebok. Reebok posted an operating loss of 96 million euros in the first quarter.

    An integral part of the New York Yankees starting bull-pen, pitcher Chien-Ming Wang had the honor of pitching from the mound at Yankee stadium’s inaugural game. As the pride of Taiwan and a popular Taiwanese figure, Wang was given the opportunity to create and customize his very own Nike Air Max 1 Premium. The result doesn’t stray far from his baseball roots as he combines premium leathers with a symbolic baseball stitching in gold. Subtle and understated hints to his place with the Yankees can be seen via navy #40 embroidery. Rounding out the design are a silhouette of Wang lasered into the tongue and a translucent gold outsole. The shoe will launch on Friday, July 10th at select retailers of Nike in Taiwan with a global release soon after.

    Since his rookie year in 1985, Michael Jordan has been a dynamic presence in the NBA due to his play and stature. Fans both young and old have copied everything about Jordan’s moves, mannerisms (see tongue wagging) and footwear. Given that Jordan changed the way the game was played on the court it should come as no surprise that the Air Jordan line of sneakers, and subsequent models like the Air Force Jordan Fusions, revolutionized the athletic shoe industry.

     

    Nike knew a good thing when they saw it and quickly signed Michael Jordan to a five year endorsement deal during his rookie year in the NBA. It was in his rookie year in 1985 that the Air Jordan was introduced to the market. The sneaker, with its bold color scheme of black and red, quickly turned the NBA upside down. Jordan was fined $5,000 every game he wore the new sneakers since their colors violated the NB A’s uniform code policy. But Jordan continued to wear them and they began to catch on like wildfire. Eventually, the NBA relented and the sneakers became a staple in the league. Every year after that, a new version of the sneaker was introduced to the market. Eventually, the signature trade mark of Michael Jordan flying through the air with his arm outstretched came to define the brand and started to appear on the sneaker as well.

     

    After Michael Jordan retired, Nike continued to produce and market the Air Jordan sneaker through The Jordan Brand Company. One of the first lines of sneakers they introduced was called the Air Force Jordan Fusions and it quickly became one of their most popular types. The Air Force Jordan Fusions were first introduced as a combination of previous Air Jordan and Air Force One Models. It seemed that fans loved the “retro” designs of the first few versions of the Air Jordan and were looking all over for available pairs. Nike heard the call of its customers and developed the Air Force Jordan Fusions to combine the best features of previous Air Jordan sneakers with the best features of the Air Force One.

    The sneakers have been an instant hit and Nike has produced several versions with the latest being released just this past April.

     

    The introduction of the Air Jordan sneaker revolutionized the athletic shoe industry and ushered in a new era of basketball fashion. Suddenly, basketball sneakers became more than athletic shoes, they became a pop culture icon for many youths. It’s a testament to Michael Jordan’s influence that the demand for his sneakers continued after his retirement. Its apparent that the next great ambassador of the basketball sneaker may be Lebron James.

    It’s no secret that the Hypermax in the Tennis Ball makeups and the McFly colorway are on everyone’s radar right now. These No Flywire (NFW) versions have been floating around the web for a bit, all the while creating quite the buzz.

    The Nike Hypermax McFly is possibly an instant classic, as the colorway alone has a cult following. One thing that we haven’t seen good photos of is the glow in the dark features.     Last time you saw the collection of Nike Hypermaxes set to drop soon, and it appears soon is, well, now.  The Nike Hypermax NFW (non-Flywire) ‘Tennis Ball’ was spotted on store shelves in that earlier post, but now we see them online.  Hong Kong’s RMK Store has the pack of three for pre-order, but it looks like the locals already grabbed up the neon colorway but select sizes of the blue and red colorway are still available.
